Apply for a Citizen Board: Volunteers are the heart of so many organizations and the City of Rome has numerous volunteer opportunities that citizens are encouraged to serve on. From Alcohol Control to the Planning and Zoning Commission, there is a committee that needs your help.

Alcohol Control Commission
The Alcohol Control Commission (ACC) oversees alcohol sale permits and enforcement. The commission makes recommendations to the Rome City Commission for new ordinances and ordinance amendments.

Community Redevelopment Committee
The Community Redevelopment Committee was established as a vehicle to work with private developers who want to invest in our community.

Development Oversight Committee
The Joint City/County Development Oversight Committee is comprised of representatives from joint City/County departments including Building Inspection, E.C.O. Center, Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful, and the Planning Department who meet to share updates on permitting, inspections, code enforcement, the ULDC, and community programming.

Downtown Development Authority
The Board of Directors for the Downtown Development Authority represent businesses, property owners and residents that make up the downtown district. Board members serve to ensure a positive image, supplement services, promote businesses, and respond to challenges from other competitive developments within the region.

Ethics Investigating Committee
Ethics Investigation Committee has the responsibility to investigate ethics complaints. They serve to determine the merits of a complaint, investigate the complaint if needed and address further steps to resolve the complaint. If the committee decides the complaint is meritless, then the complaint will be dismissed.

Finance Committee
The Finance Committee is a standing committee of the Rome City Commission that serves to oversee City finances and taxation.

Fire Overview Committee
The Fire Overview Committee meets to share updates with the City and County on fire prevention, monthly call statistics, fire training, and issues that need to be voted on by both Commissions.

General Administration Committee
The General Administration Committee is a standing committee of the Rome City Commission that meets with the City Manager and reporting directors to address concerns and plans of the overall administration of the City.

Historic Preservation Commission
The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) guides development and renovation in the 5 local Historic Districts, safeguarding Rome's built resources according to the provisions of the local Historic Preservation Ordinance.

Joint Services Committee
The Joint Services Committee is comprised of officials from both the City and County, and meets quarterly to discuss and provide oversight on joint departments and items concerning both governments.

Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful
The Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful (KRFB) Board serves to encourage local citizens to clean up, beautify, and improve their neighborhoods to help create a healthier, safer and more livable community.

Land Bank Authority
The Rome/Floyd Land Bank Authority (LBA) is a public entity authorized by state law and created pursuant to an intergovernmental contract between Floyd County and the City of Rome. It is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Floyd County Commission and the Rome City Commission. The LBA is established to acquire tax delinquent properties, surplus properties of the local governments, and other properties in order to foster the public purpose of returning land which is a nonrevenue-generating, nontax-producing status to an effective utilization status in order to provide affordable housing, new industry and jobs for the citizens of Georgia.

Pension Committee
The Pension Committee meets biannually and is responsible for overseeing the City's participation in the Georgia Municipal Employee Benefit System (GMEBS) and recommending any changes to the City's employee pension plan.

Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is responsible for reviewing the Comprehensive Plan, initiating motions on zoning change requests, and amendments to the Development Code.

Public Art Committee
The Public Art Committee meets as needed to review and approve submitted public art plans for exhibition in the public environment.

Public Safety Committee
The Public Safety Committee is a standing committee of the Rome City Commission that reviews matters regarding public safety and the City of Rome Police Department.

Public Works/Traffic/Transit
The Public Works/Traffic/Transit Committee was combined from three separate bodies: The Public Works and Transit Committees, and the Traffic Commission.

Rome/Floyd Development Authority
The Development Authority serves as the primary economic development agency for the community. In 2019, the City of Rome and Floyd County entered into a new agreement to establish the Rome Floyd Development Authority.

Rome-Floyd Solid Waste Commission
The Solid Waste Commission oversees all combined solid waste management activities, as well as the operations and funding of the Walker Mountain Landfill, managed by the City of Rome Public Works, and the Rome-Floyd Recycling Center, managed by Floyd County Public Works.

Tourism Board
The Board of Directors for Georgia's Rome Office of Tourism is a group of outstanding community leaders and industry representatives. Each member donates time, effort, and expertise to help project a positive image to visitors in our community.

Trails and Rivers Committee
The Community Development Services Committee shares program and project updates from the Community Development Department, Rome/Floyd Building Inspection Office (including Code Enforcement), Downtown Development Authority, Keep Rome/Floyd Beautiful and the ECO Center. These departments are all involved with quality-of-life improvements across the community.

The Tree Board is responsible for the planning, care, and preservation of trees and shrubs in parks, along streets, and in other public areas.

The Water & Sewer Committee is a standing committee of the Rome City Commission that oversees water and sewer service rates, budgets and operations.
