About the Board

History & Purpose

In 1962 the Georgia General Assembly amended the Georgia Constitution to create the Rome/Floyd Development Authority. The Authority is composed of seven members including the Mayor of Rome, the chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Floyd County, the chairman of the Rome-Floyd Chamber of Commerce, and the chairman of the Greater Rome Existing Industrial Association of the Chamber of Commerce. Since its inception, the Rome/Floyd Development Authority has vigorously sought to achieve its primary goal of assisting, promoting, establishing, and developing new industries and expanding the existing industry, agriculture, trade, and commerce within Floyd County.

The Authority meets to assist and promote economic growth in Rome and Floyd County and considers any new economic prospects and examines the marketing prospects and progress of the industrial sites. The Authority offers industrial revenue bond financing for qualifying businesses.

In 2019, The City of Rome and Floyd County entered into a new agreement with the Rome/Floyd Development Authority to become the primary economic development agency for the community. Under the new agreement, the Authority employed a new Executive Director to head up recruitment and retention efforts and relocated to the corner of Broad Street and Turner McCall Boulevard. They serve to meet the needs of new and existing industries.
